Members of High Stress Families

It matters a great deal what our experiences and environment were during our childhood.

If you are/were a member of a high stress family, your focus was having to figure out every single day how to cope with what was going on around you.

Some examples of a high stress family are rigid rules, high levels of criticism or hostility, chronic illness, mental illness, cultural, lack of resources, divorce or separation, frequent moves, addiction, emotional enmeshment between family members (no boundaries), family involvement with law enforcement, abuse-emotional, mental, physical, sexual

A person who has experienced this type of environment may have difficulty with depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence; have poor coping skills and make unhealthy choices in relationships throughout their life.

Often, a person learns not to trust others, talk about or feel their feelings, think about themselves or perceive anything other than what the family says it is.

It can be challenging to break away from that dynamic in order to set one's own path and goals in life.

I invite you to take that first step for yourself. Let's talk.

I offer in office and telehealth appointments.
